Call for Applications

We invite all who are interested in Hebrew-character printing — including also Jewish vernaculars like Yiddish, Ladino, and Judeo-Arabic — to join us for two days of collaborative learning.

Our symposium on Hebrew type is co-hosted by the Mellon Society of Fellows in Critical Bibliography, the University of Minnesota (including the Center for Jewish Studies, the Center for Premodern Studies, and the UMN Libraries), and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and additionally supported by Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council through the Oren & Sharron Steinfeldt Foundation. The activities of the first day will be held on the campus of the University of Minnesota, and the second day at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, both located in downtown Minneapolis.

We welcome participation from historians, art historians, bibliographers, archivists, librarians, typographers, designers, printers, and book artists of all kinds. The symposium will include panels of paper presentations and roundtable discussions, in addition to hands-on workshops and an exhibition of contemporary letterpress art with Hebrew type; all these events are free and open to the public.
